VPK Newsletter 11/29/2018 - a week of growing things

Hello Zebra Families,

We trust everyone had a safe and festive Thanksgiving, but now it’s time to transition to Christmas time! Before we get to our holiday reminders, let’s re-cap this week of VPK activities.

Our theme this week was growing things and our letter of focus was O. All week our students learned about how plants grow. We learned about what you can grow and what you need to get plants to grow. We also practiced writing the letter O and naming things that start with the letter O.

For a quick activity at home, quiz your child on what four things you need to grow a plant (soil, seeds, water and sunlight).

To reinforce the growing process, we started growing our own lima beans and grass seeds! Our students can’t wait to see their seedlings sprout! We've posted a video of this project at the bottom of this below:

Continuing with our theme of growing things, our classes read various books that continue to explain the growing process. If you’d like to read some of these books to your child at home, they are:

  • “Oh Say Can You Seed” – by Bonnie Worth

  • “The Tiny Seed” – by Eric Carle

  • “Apple Picking Time” – by Michele Benoit Slawson

Now for the reminders for all locations:

  • As a general reminder, the weather is starting to cool down significantly, so please ensure your child has a jacket with their name on the label in their cubby.

  • There will be no VPK between December 24th – January 8th. VPK will resume on the 9th. We of course can accommodate your child, please just let our office personnel know.

Downtown:

  • Tomorrow is the moment we’ve all been waiting for – Royal Palm Dinner Theater Day! Please remember to dress your child in their Sunday’s best, we can’t wait for our buffet lunch and show and we’d love for everyone to be dressed to the nines!

  • We are also gearing up for Christmas, so please make in your calendars that Santa Claus is visiting from The North Pole on the 18th of December! We’ll be sure to remind everyone more as the date approaches.

  • Finally, to all our classes, we will have an extra take-home activity next week to go along with the usual homework, and Miss Kelly would like to remind our parents to check their folders in the front office each day!

Midtown

  • Our Broadway Palm Dinner Theater field trip is coming up in THREE WEEKS on the 21st, and we can’t wait! Remember to get your child's money in, and we would like everyone dressed in their Sunday’s best, so please plan accordingly.

  • Please make sure your child has two changes of clothes in their cubby.

North Fort Myers

  • We are gearing up for Christmas, so please make in your calendars that Santa Claus is visiting from The North Pole on the 19th of December! We’ll be sure to remind everyone more as the date approaches.

All the best,

Miss Wendy, Miss Stephenie, Miss Ellie, Miss Kelley, Miss Tracie, Miss Carol, Miss Julia, Miss Debbie, Miss Barbara, Miss Sandy and Miss Sandra.
